What's better than wood panelling?

Quote of the Week - Jean-Dominique Bauby
...I see in the clothing a symbol of continuing life. And proof that I still want to be myself. If I must drool, I may as well drool on cashmere. (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly)

Tip of the Week - How to Choose the Best Tie
- silk should feel smooth
- high-quality ties, constructed from three pieces of fabric, should lie perfectly flat, without bumps or ripples.
- make sure the bar tack is securely attached and on straight - detail, details!
- pull on the back slip stitch - one that has been sewn on correctly helps maintain the shape of the tie and gathers together when pulled
- hold the tie over your hand and let it fall. The narrow end should fall directly in the middle of the wide end
How to Pack A Carry On Bag
Of course everyone is different. I usually pack an extra pair of underwear, socks, deodorant and a pic of my family.
- aspirin
- batteries
- camera
- credit cards
- confirmations
- eyeglasses
- sunglasses
- identification
- keys
- light sweater
- prescriptions
- mints/gum
- money
- outerwear
- passport/visa
- reading material
- sleep mask
- ear plugs
- ticket
- toothbrush/paste
- empty water bottle (have the flight attendants fill it for you once on the plane)

Quote of the Week - Robert Frost
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

How to Wear a Beard
I prefer fur. I think it started when I was a little girl with Grizzly Adams. So when I was out having lunch with my friend on Tuesday she announces, 'Jesus has arrived.' when Mr. Big Beard walks in. 'Well, Hello Jesus!' was my response. I then had to explain my preference for the beard.
- the eyes are the cavern to the soul and the beard highlights them (note Charles Manson - take one look at those eyes and tell me what you think).
- I enjoy watching men shave, trim, groom.
- they are pleasurable.
- they show confidence and non-conformity.
- I'm not partial to the baby face look.
- whisker burn is not nice.
- pheromones under the ear lobe just near the hinge of the jaw.
- to look older
- to attract attention
- to cover a weak chin, scar or to take attention away from a large nose or lips that are too small or thick
- for fun!
** Your beard should always be in proportion to the size of your face and body.
** It takes about a month to grow. Facial hair grows 3/4 of an inch every 30 days.
Round face
- a beard can make it look longer - especially a pointed one like Mr. Crangi's in the photo above.
- long sideburns make a face look slimmer.
- a round face should never wear short sideburns. They will make the face look even rounder.
- facial hair gives width to the lower portion of the face and broadens it out.
- go for a round beard
- go for a heavy to medium mustache
- go for a big mustache. It will make it look smaller.
- thin mustache
- the natural line of your mustache and beard looks less artificial
- stop shaving for the first 4-6 weeks to see where and how your beard grows
- trim at least every 2 weeks or every day to keep it elegant
- use shears, scissors or a beard trimmer
- bottom of mustache should be trimmed first
- never let it grow over the edge of the upper lip
- to thin your beard lay a comb over it and run an electric razor across the comb
- sideburns should be left full around the ears
- don't focus on making sharp, straight lines, but always control the thickness
- trim your beard when it's dry and start above your jaw, from your chin to your ear.
- for edges follow the line of the jaw where the skin of your neck meets the skin of your chin
- use conditioner to soften your beard and make it shine
So, as I said to my hair stylist JD when he told me he preferred my husband clean shaven - 'Don't knock it till you've tried it.'
ps: I thought Joaquin Phoenix looked damn hot with that beard! I also like wood paneling.
